Pair Of Large Victorian Staffordshire Dogs

Pair Of Large Victorian Staffordshire Dogs

STAFFORDSHIRE/LATE 19TH OR EARLY 20TH CENTURY

A large pair of English Staffordshire porcelain figures of orange and white seated spaniel dogs with gold collars. Their two front legs are separated, a more delicate, therefore rare process, making this pair one of the rarest models of dogs. This pair of Staffordshire dogs from the Victorian era shows a deep definition, the brush work is of wonderful quality. Queen Victoria's first dog, Dash, was very likely the source of inspiration for the Spaniel figures in the 19th century. Staffordshire figures were typically placed on a mantelpiece, meaning that less attention was placed on their back. However, this particular pair shows incredible quality of details on all sides. They are in great condition.
